AutoCAD splash screen startups up and then closes

When you try to launch AutoCAD, the splash screen starts up and then closes down with no apparent error message. This issue sometimes occurs after installing a student or evaluation version of an Autodesk product. This symptom is very similar to TS15176093

  1. Check the file “productname201xENUAdlm.log”, e.g., the Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture 2012 log file, ARCHDESK2012ENUAdlm.log, located here:

  2. Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ADLM

    Vista/Windows 7

  3. The error will typically be:

  4. Reason=Fatal error
    OS=6.1.7601.Service Pack 1
AdlmActError=102 [Too many licenses of one type]

This indicates that the FLEXnet license files have become corrupted.

  5. Delete, rename or relocate all of the adskflex*.* files located in the FLEXnet directory:

  6. Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FLEXnet\adskflex_*

    Vista/Windows 7

This file contains all activations for all 2010 and newer Autodesk products. You will need to re-register all your products if after these files have been moved, renamed, or deleted.

  7. Restart AutoCAD and go through the product activation procedure again. New adskflex_* file will be created once you’ve successfully re-registered your product(s).

  1. Thanx a lot……..
    Finally relieved…….
Didn’t expect it to be so simple. No need of reinstalling. Hardly took about a minute. The directory locations for windows 8.1 is same as that for windows 7, although, had to turn on to ‘Show Hidden Files and Folders’.

  2. It’s the only method that works. I followed some more methods almost like this but failed. The magic word is in step 3: “Delete, rename or relocate all of the adskflex*.* files located in the FLEXnet directory”. Instead of other threads that support the idea to delete only the C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\adskflex_*

  3. You are awesome!!!
It helped me with 3ds Max 2016 and AutoCAD 2015.
3ds Max log file, 2016_en-US_adlm.log, located here:
    C:\Users\…\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2016 – 64bit\ENU\2016_en-US_adlm.log
    Windows 7

  4. Thank you so much. It worked for me too.
Had some restraints when deleting the data file. When I checked & deleted the Autodesk related processes from Task Manager, could delete the flexnet data file.

    Regards !!
